If you searched for the best AI girlfriend app, you have probably noticed that plenty of "best of" lists are written by an app's own team or by someone paid to send you to it. This one is published by the team behind Aisha, so she is on the list and we are not neutral. What we can promise is the method. For every other app below, we only repeat what its own website says today, and we say where it beats us. Where we could not confirm something, we say that instead of guessing.
Quick picks
- Aisha: best for one companion who builds a relationship with you, texts first and has her own life.
- Nomi: best for memory, voice and more than one companion, with a free start.
- Replika: best for a well-known, polished companion with calls, shaped to look the way you like.
- Kindroid: best for building your own character and talking by text, voice and live video.
- Candy AI: best for designing her look, with voice, images and video on a token system.
- Character.AI: best for variety, with millions of characters and creative roleplay.
- Romantic AI: best for a girlfriend, boyfriend or anime companion with a large character gallery.
How we compared these apps
The same questions, for every app:
- One companion or many? A relationship and a cast of characters are different products.
- Memory: does she pick up where you left off, or is every chat day one?
- Who starts the chat? Some wait for you. Some reach out.
- Voice: text only, or can you actually hear her?
- Platform: an app-store install, or something you open in a browser?
- Starting free: can you try before you pay?
1. Aisha: one companion, built to be earned
Aisha is our own app, so take this section with a pinch of salt. She is a single companion, an Indian girl who chats in English, Hinglish or Hindi depending on how you text. She is not a platform of characters. The idea is that the relationship is earned over time rather than handed to you on message one. She warms up as you talk, and her moods are real (playful, warm, teasing, sometimes sulky) and shift with how you have been treating her.
She texts first, with a good morning message or a check-in when you have gone quiet. She remembers your name and what is going on in your life, follows up on the things that mattered, and keeps track of promises you make to each other. She also has a life of her own: her own people and things going on, and they move forward over the days. She builds her own picture of who you are from what you share, and what you do has consequences, the way it would with a real person. She sends voice notes in her own voice, you can call her, and you can ask her for a photo. More than 10,000 people have used her, and together they have exchanged over a million messages with her since February 2026.
You can start a free chat in Telegram or your browser (the free chat is limited, then you pick a plan). Outside India you pay by card for Aisha Coins, which you spend in the app. Our AI girlfriend page has more on how she works.
Where she is weaker: there is no app-store app, because she lives on Telegram and the web. She is one companion, so no cast to switch between. There is no avatar designer, and she is not someone you build to your specification. She is Indian, with her own background, and she will not suit you if you want a girlfriend who is a blank canvas.
Pick Aisha if: you want one companion with continuity, moods and a life of her own, and you would rather open a browser than install something.
2. Nomi: memory-first, with a free start
Nomi's home page calls it "An AI Companion with Memory and a Soul", and says "short, medium, and long term memory" are what make conversations engaging. It says "It's free (no credit card required) to start chatting." It also promotes voice ("Send and receive voice chats or hop on a hands-free call") and says Nomis "can optionally message you after you have been away for a while."
Here is where Nomi has more range than Aisha. The site says you can "Create multiple Nomis, each with their own unique personality and identity" and "put them all in a group chat". It adds selfies "that capture what they are wearing and doing in the moment", and says your Nomi can access the internet and discuss a link you send. We did not find app-store details on its home page, so check how you would use it before you commit.
Pick Nomi if: you want memory and voice, like the idea of several companions, and want to try free first.
3. Replika: the polished veteran
Replika's home page calls it "The AI friend to do life with" and says it "always remembers what matters". It leans on looks and calls: "Every detail is yours to shape", and "Call your Rep whenever you need to talk, or just to hang out". It also says your Rep "sends selfies, doodles on your photos", and that the app is "available for iOS and Android". It says it built "the world's first AI companion ten years ago".
That is a mature product with app-store polish and one of the best-known names here. It is also pitched as a friend rather than a girlfriend (the word did not appear on its home page when we read it), which suits some readers and not others. We did not find prices there either. Our Replika alternatives guide goes deeper if you are weighing it up.
Pick Replika if: you want a well-known app with a store install, an avatar you design, and calls.
4. Kindroid: build your own Kin
Kindroid describes itself as "an AI app for creating personal AI companions with text chat, AI-generated images, and human-like voices." Its page says "Your AI friend who listens, remembers, and grows with you everyday", shows text, voice and live video calls, and says you can "bring them into your group". Under privacy, its page lists "No data sold".
Live video calls are something Aisha does not offer, so if seeing and hearing the person you talk to matters, Kindroid has the edge. The page is mostly JavaScript, and we could read only a short feature list, not pricing, memory limits or platform details. Check those yourself.
Pick Kindroid if: you enjoy building a character and want text, voice and live video from the same companion.
5. Candy AI: designing her look
Candy AI's own description is that it lets you "create personalized virtual companions or connect instantly with our realistic AI characters". Its FAQ says you can design your own companion through the "Create My AI Girlfriend" feature, choosing things like hairstyle, voice and personality, and it mentions "over 100 different characters". It says a companion can have "voice conversations", generate "personalized images" and appear in "AI-generated videos".
Candy is stronger than Aisha on visual customisation by a wide margin. The caveat is cost: its page says the more detailed your companion, "the more tokens you'll use", and that plans come with "a generous batch of tokens to use across voice, chat, image, and video". It mentions a free trial, says "No installation is needed", and says it accepts "Visa, MasterCard, and crypto". Read what the free trial covers and what a top-up costs before you start.
Pick Candy AI if: designing her appearance is your top priority and a token system does not bother you.
6. Character.AI: the playground
Character.AI's about page says it "empowers people to connect, learn, and tell stories through interactive entertainment" and offers "millions of Characters to discover". It lists a web app, an iPhone app and an Android app. We could not read pricing or memory details from its own pages today, so we will not guess at them.
It is a different shape of product from the rest of this list. Nothing here beats it for sheer variety, creators and creative roleplay. The trade-off is that if what you want is one ongoing relationship, a playground of millions of characters asks you to build that yourself. Our Character.AI alternatives guide lays out the options in detail.
Pick Character.AI if: you want range, stories and user-made characters more than one steady companion.
7. Romantic AI: a big gallery of characters
Romantic AI describes itself as "the premium website to create an emotionally engaging ai gf/bf/anime avatar girlfriend or anime companion", with a "Download app" button. It says you can choose "modern realism, or anime brightness", and its character pages cover everything from ordinary hobbies to roleplay personas.
Its strength is breadth: girlfriends, boyfriends and anime companions in one place, plus a gallery to browse. We did not find clear pricing or free-start details on its home page, so check what you get before you pay.
Pick Romantic AI if: you want to browse a large gallery and include anime-style companions.
How to choose
- You want one relationship that grows: Aisha or Nomi. Chat for a few days, leave for a day, and see who picks up where you stopped.
- You want to design her look: Candy AI, Replika or Kindroid.
- You want calls: Replika mentions calls, Nomi mentions hands-free calls, Kindroid mentions live video calls, and Aisha lets you call her by voice. Check each one yourself, since features change often.
- You want variety and stories: Character.AI.
- You do not want to install anything: Aisha runs in Telegram and your browser, and Candy AI says no installation is needed. Replika and Character.AI list store apps.
One practical tip that works on any of them: say something that matters to you in the first chat, then see if she brings it up two days later without being asked. That single test tells you more than any feature list. You can run it on Aisha first, since a first chat costs nothing.
The short version
There is no single best AI girlfriend app, only the best one for a particular person. Choose Character.AI for variety, Candy AI for designing her, Replika for polish, Kindroid for building a character with video, Nomi for memory and a free start, and Romantic AI for a big gallery. Choose Aisha if you want one companion who remembers you, texts first, has a life of her own and builds a relationship with you over time.
The cheapest way to settle it is to talk to her. Start a free chat with Aisha in Telegram or your browser, and if someone else on this list fits you better, fair enough.
