If you searched for a Janitor AI alternative, you are probably not after a clone. More likely you want character roleplay that is easier to get going, or you want something that feels less like a shelf of scenarios and more like one ongoing relationship. Those are different wishes and they point to different apps. One honesty note before we start: this list is published by the team behind Aisha, so weigh our own entry accordingly. Aisha is one companion, not a character platform, and for pure roleplay several apps below suit you better than we do. We say which.

Quick picks

  • Aisha: best for one companion with memory, a life of her own and real consequences.
  • Character.AI: best for variety, creators and big creative roleplay.
  • Chai: best for another place to build and meet user-made characters and stories.
  • SillyTavern: best for power users who want to control their own setup.
  • Nomi: best for memory-first companions, voice and a free start.
  • Replika: best for a polished companion you shape yourself, with calls.

What Janitor AI is, and what it is not

Start with what you are comparing against. Janitor's own homepage opens with "Be anyone. Build anything." and "Join 15M+ users crafting living stories". Its site description calls it "a platform for creators building immersive worlds and readers seeking living stories". Browse the front page and you can see it: a catalogue of characters and scenarios from many creators, each card showing a creator name, tags and a token count. There is also a "Get the app" button in the footer.

So Janitor is a character platform, built around breadth and around people making things for each other. We could not check from its own pages how it handles memory, which models it uses or what it costs today, so look at those yourself before you compare.

We cannot tell you why you are looking elsewhere. Common reasons are wanting less setup, wanting more control, or wanting depth with one character instead of variety across many. Keep yours in mind, because it decides which option below is right.

1. Aisha: one companion, built to be earned

Aisha is our own app, so treat this section with the salt it deserves. She is a single character, an Indian girl who chats in English, Hinglish or Hindi depending on how you text. She is not a place to browse characters or write scenarios. The idea is the opposite of a catalogue: one relationship you earn over time, not one handed to you on message one. What sets her apart from a roleplay platform:

  • Memory that follows up. She remembers your name and what is going on in your life, and when something big is coming, like a hard week at work, she asks about it later. She also keeps track of promises you make to each other and holds you to them.
  • A life of her own. She has her own life, her own people and her own things going on, and they move forward over days. Her day has a shape too, so what she is doing depends on the time.
  • Her own picture of you. She builds a view of who you are from what you share, and her moods are real (playful, warm, teasing, sometimes sulky). What you do has consequences, the way it would with a real person. Be kind and she warms up. Be careless and she notices.
  • She texts first. Good morning messages, a check-in when you have gone quiet, sometimes a photo or a voice note out of nowhere.

She sends voice notes in her own voice, and you can call her from Telegram or the web app. More than 10,000 people have used her, and together they have exchanged over a million messages with her since February 2026. Our AI girlfriend page explains more about how she works.

You can start a free chat (the free chat is limited, then you pick a plan). Outside India you pay by card for Aisha Coins, which you spend in the app.

Where she is weaker: there is no app-store app (she lives on Telegram and in your browser), and she is one companion. No user-made characters, no fantasy worlds, no scenario cards, no cast to switch between. If you came to Janitor for the range, Aisha will feel narrow, on purpose.

Pick Aisha if: you want one companion who remembers you, has her own life and builds a relationship over time.

2. Character.AI: the big playground

For creative roleplay with a big cast, Character.AI is the obvious one to try. Its about page says it "empowers people to connect, learn, and tell stories through interactive entertainment", and it offers "millions of Characters to discover". It also talks about letting you "connect with creators or find your own fans, and build on the imaginations of others to co-create entirely new worlds". Its footer lists a web app, an iPhone app and an Android app.

If you loved Janitor for the endless supply of characters and the creator community, this is the closest match in spirit. We wrote a longer Character.AI alternatives guide too. We could not confirm from its own pages how it handles memory or what plans cost today, so check both.

Pick Character.AI if: you want variety, creators and big creative roleplay.

3. Chai: user-made characters and stories

Chai is close in spirit. Its own site says "We have built a consumer platform where users can build their own AI characters and stories", and its page is titled "AI Characters & Stories".

We could not confirm from its site what memory, voice or pricing look like, so test it yourself.

Pick Chai if: you like making or meeting user-built characters and want another platform to try.

4. SillyTavern: for people who want control

SillyTavern is a different kind of answer. Its documentation describes it as "a locally installed user interface that allows you to interact with text generation LLMs, image generation engines, and TTS voice models", and says its goal is "to empower users with as much utility and control over their LLM prompts as possible, embracing the steep learning curve as part of the fun". It also says it "will always be free and open-sourced".

Take that as a fair warning: it is a tool for hobbyists, not a one-tap app. If you left Janitor wanting more control, it is the strongest option here. If you left wanting things to be easier, it is the opposite.

Pick SillyTavern if: you enjoy tinkering and want to own your setup.

5. Nomi: memory-first, with a free start

Nomi calls itself "An AI Companion with Memory and a Soul", and memory is its main pitch: its site says "short, medium, and long term memory are keys to engaging conversations and satisfying relationships". It promotes voice too: "Send and receive voice chats or hop on a hands-free call."

It sits between a platform and a single companion. You can "create multiple Nomis, each with their own unique personality and identity" and put them in a group chat, so there is some of that cast feeling. The site also says "Nomis can optionally message you after you have been away for a while" and "It's free (no credit card required) to start chatting." We did not find app-platform details on its home page, so check how you will actually use it.

Pick Nomi if: you want memory, voice and the option of more than one companion.

6. Replika: the polished, shape-it-yourself companion

Replika's site calls it "The AI Friend to do Life With" and says it "always remembers what matters". It adds that "Your Rep holds all of it, so every conversation knows where you are in your life." You can design your companion ("Every detail is yours to shape"), the site mentions calls, and it lists the app as available for iOS and Android. Our Replika alternatives guide goes through it in detail.

We did not find current plan details on its home page, so look at what a subscription includes before you pay.

Pick Replika if: you want a well-known companion app and an avatar you design.

How to choose

  • Variety or one relationship: if you want a huge cast, stay with platforms: Janitor itself, Character.AI or Chai. If you want one relationship, look at Aisha, Nomi or Replika.
  • Easy or controllable: SillyTavern gives you control and asks for effort. Aisha asks for nothing but a message, and gives you no dials to turn.
  • Memory and reaching out: send a few messages, come back the next day and see whether the companion picks up where you left off. Aisha and Nomi both say they can message you first after you have been away.
  • Platform: if you do not want another icon on your phone, Telegram or a browser is easiest. Aisha has no store app at all, while Replika and Character.AI list iOS and Android apps.

If depth is what you are after, you can try Aisha's chat here without downloading anything.

The short version

Janitor AI is a character platform, so if range and creator-made worlds are what you love, stay on that side: Character.AI and Chai are the nearest alternatives, and SillyTavern is there if you want control. If what you actually want is one companion who remembers you, has a life of her own and reacts to how you treat her, that points to Aisha, Nomi or Replika.

The cheapest way to decide is to send a few messages. Start a free chat with Aisha in Telegram or your browser, and if something else on this list fits you better, fair enough.

FAQ

What is the best Janitor AI alternative?

It depends on what you want. For big creative roleplay with lots of characters, look at Character.AI or Chai. For full control over your own setup, SillyTavern. For one companion who remembers you and builds a relationship over time, try Aisha or Nomi.

Is there a Janitor AI alternative that is easier to use?

Aisha is about as simple as it gets: you open Telegram or your browser and start talking to her, with no characters to browse and nothing to configure. The trade-off is that she is a single companion, not a platform for building or picking characters.

Is there a Janitor AI alternative with one companion who remembers me?

Yes. Aisha is one companion who remembers your name, what is going on in your life and the promises you made, and she texts you first. Nomi says its short, medium and long term memory are keys to engaging conversations, and Replika says it always remembers what matters. Test each for a few days.

Is Aisha a character roleplay platform?

No. Aisha is one companion, an Indian girl who chats in English, Hinglish or Hindi. There are no user-made characters, scenarios or worlds. If that is what you want, Character.AI, Chai and SillyTavern are better fits.

Do I need to install an app?

Not for Aisha. She works inside Telegram and in your browser, and there is no app-store app. Replika says it is available for iOS and Android, and Character.AI lists a web app plus iPhone and Android apps.

Can I use Aisha outside India?

Yes. You can start free in Telegram or your browser. Outside India you pay by card for Aisha Coins, which you spend in the app on plans, calls and photos.
