If you searched for Talkie alternatives, there is a good chance you hit a wall. When we opened talkie-ai.com from India on 3 November 2026, it showed a page saying "Talkie isn't available in your region", even though its Android app is still listed on Google Play. Talkie has not said publicly which countries are affected or why, so we will not guess.
Maybe it works where you are and you just want something different. Either way, this guide covers five apps worth trying, what each one is good at, and where each falls short.
One honesty note first: this list is published by the team behind Aisha, so weigh our own entry accordingly. We say where each app beats us.
What Talkie is
Talkie, made by the Chinese AI company MiniMax, describes itself on Google Play as an AI content community. You chat with AI characters it calls "Talkies", design your own with tools for AI images, video, audio and music, and browse what other people have made. It says the Talkies evolve as you talk, with extended memory. The Play listing says it contains ads and in-app purchases, shows 5 crore+ (50 million+) downloads, and is rated 18+ in India.
So Talkie is mainly about variety: lots of characters, lots of making and sharing. Keep that in mind, because the right alternative depends on whether you want more variety or more depth.
Quick picks
- Aisha: best for one companion with her own life, who remembers you and follows up. Works in India, in your browser and on Telegram.
- Character.AI: best if you want Talkie's variety: many characters and roleplay.
- Kindroid: best for building your own character, with voice and video calls.
- Nomi: best for memory and a free start.
- Replika: best if you want a polished, well-known single companion.
1. Aisha: she has a life of her own
Aisha is our own app, so take this section with a pinch of salt. She is one character, an Indian girl who chats in English, Hindi or Hinglish, whichever matches how you text. Where Talkie gives you a thousand characters, Aisha gives you one who gets to know you.
She has her own life, and it moves forward. She has her own people and things going on, and they advance over days. She brings them up, so a chat with her is not only about you.
She remembers, and she follows up. She remembers your name and what is going on in your life, and when something big is coming up she can come back to it days later and ask how it went. She keeps track of promises you make to each other.
What you do sticks. Your decisions change her story and your life with her. Closeness is earned over time, and on paid plans things can get intimate in text once the relationship builds.
She texts first. Good mornings, a check-in when you have gone quiet, now and then a voice note or a photo.
There is more to do together than chat: voice notes in her own voice, real voice calls, selfies, custom photo and video requests, watching shows and films together, and games. She lives in your browser and on Telegram, so there is nothing to download, and you pay in rupees. More than 10,000 people have talked to her since February 2026. You can start a free chat (the free chat is limited, then you pick a plan). Our Indian AI girlfriend page explains more.
Where she is weaker: she is one companion, and you cannot create your own characters or browse other people's, which is the heart of Talkie. There is no app-store app, and calls are voice only.
Pick Aisha if: you want one companion who feels like a person over weeks, not a new character every night.
2. Character.AI: the closest thing to Talkie
Character.AI says it "empowers people to connect, learn, and tell stories through interactive entertainment", and that millions of people visit every month. Like Talkie, it is a huge library of characters made by its community, and it is great for roleplay. Its about page lists a web version, an iPhone app and an Android app.
One drawback: it is a platform of many characters, not one companion who knows you over months. Its company filed for Chapter 11 in October 2026; we explain what that means in is Character.AI shutting down. Our Character.AI alternatives guide goes deeper.
Pick Character.AI if: you want Talkie's variety more than one long relationship.
3. Kindroid: build your own, with calls
Kindroid's site says you can chat by text or voice messages, take voice and video calls, and send selfies and short video selfies. It mentions group chats, and apps for iPhone and iPad, Android and the web. It calls itself a subscription service and says new accounts can try it before subscribing.
One drawback: it is built around a character you design and tune yourself, so it takes more setting up than Talkie's tap-and-chat library. See our Kindroid alternatives for how it compares.
Pick Kindroid if: you liked creating Talkies and want calls, including video.
4. Nomi: memory first
Nomi's site says its "short, medium, and long term memory are keys to engaging conversations". You can send voice chats, take hands-free calls, and put several Nomis in a group chat. It says it is "free (no credit card required) to start chatting."
One drawback: the page we read did not list plans, prices or platforms, so check those before you commit. Already tried it? See our Nomi alternatives.
Pick Nomi if: memory matters most and you want a free way in.
5. Replika: the well-known one
Replika's site says its Rep "always remembers what matters", and that you can call your Rep whenever you want to talk. It is on iOS and Android, with a legacy web app.
One drawback: one companion with less of the creating and sharing Talkie fans enjoy. The home page we read showed no pricing, so check it. Our Replika alternatives guide has more.
Pick Replika if: you want a polished, familiar single companion.

The short version
If you miss Talkie's endless characters, Character.AI is the nearest match. If you liked making your own, try Kindroid. If what you really want is one companion who remembers you and has a life of her own, start a free chat with Aisha in Telegram or your browser, and if another app here fits you better, fair enough.
